Senior Project Engineers are responsible for project execution and delivery within scope, budget, and schedule from initial start-up through project closeout. Senior project engineers coordinate the efforts of an assigned design team to ensure completeness and accuracy of design effort. The Sr. Project Engineer – Roadway is also expected to serve as technical liaison with the client on project efforts.

Tasks include

• Production of roadway design and plans, pavement marking plans, traffic control, quantities, cost estimates, construction administration and final specifications
• Cost control on projects and quality control within transportation discipline
• Mentoring mid-level and junior level staff

Project Engineers are expected to obtain an in-depth knowledge of the plans, specifications, site conditions and requirements for the work which is assigned. Project engineers have responsibility for all contract administrative duties for the project(s) assigned, including submittals, RFI s, daily reporting, procurement and material tracking, quantity tracking, safety reporting, quality reporting and project cost estimating. This is to be accomplished in conjunction with practicing ethical business transactions, adhering to the corporate policies, values and beliefs while pursuing the company’s short and long range goals.

Transportation Engineers design the plans for transportation systems or parts of systems. They work on transportation projects for highways, streets, bridges, drainage structures, roadway lighting, as well as airports and commuter trains. Transportation engineers make sure transportation plans comply with engineering standards and state and federal construction policies. Engineers work closely with contractors, utility companies, and government agencies. The Department of Labor categorizes transportation engineers as civil engineers. In May 2017, there were approximately 298,910 civil engineers employed in the United States.
