Traffic Engineering Managers plans and conduct special traffic studies and prepares comprehensive reports, costs for traffic control installations, including traffic signals, signs, striping and markings. Engineering Managers also provide technical coordination on traffic signal related projects, including inspection and field liaison with contractor personnel during construction and installation, technical information to other City departments, consultants, private developers, engineers, contractors and the public. This position also includes performing calculations, design, checking and some drafting in connection with traffic signals, channelization and other traffic related projects. Finally, Coordinates traffic and transportation projects and issues with other public agencies.
Bachelor's degree in Civil/Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or Data Sciences
Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Systems Engineers assist in the development of ITS infrastructure, traffic signal, and integration of traffic control systems, and are responsible for integrating various data streams and configuring databases to organize and archive data. ITS Engineers also assist in managing the fiber-optic traffic signal communications network, CCTV system, developing standard operating procedures for server data backups and coordinating with the IT department, dashboard development for reporting/tracking ITS assets. Lastly, ITS Systems Engineers engage in customization of existing systems to leverage data for traffic engineering purposes and developing specifications for implementing new systems.
Signal Operations Engineers undertake and review traffic signal schemes from inception to operation, including site surveys, design, installation, validation, scope, design, and manage the implementation of traffic signal systems. Signal Engineers also assist traffic signal workers in installation, modification, maintenance and repair of all types of traffic signals, actively participate in the technical functions of the Electrical Section, with a particular focus on improving the current traffic signal systems, manage contracts, and carry out technical specification writing and tender analysis. Lastly, Signal Operations Engineers ensure all traffic signal projects are completed on time, within budget and as per specifications, ensure traffic signals are functional at all times practical, develop the technical solution for a situation using fundamental principles and theory, and identify technological solutions pertaining traffic signals for suitability.
